Frequently Asked Questions

Is this only for students?

Not at all. I used it with students, yes—but writers, artists, business owners, and creative thinkers of all kinds use it now. It works anywhere you need clarity.

I hate outlining. Will this be more of that?

Nope. Traditional outlines break things down.
This method builds things up. It’s visual, fast, and doesn’t ask you to be formal or “get it right.” It’s just a tool to help your ideas take shape.

Can I use this for fiction?

Yes. Many fiction writers use it to plan scenes, sketch character arcs, or explore story ideas. It’s flexible, not prescriptive.

What if I don’t know my main idea yet?

Start with what you do know. That’s part of the method. Sometimes filling in a few of the star points helps you find your center.

Do I need any special software or apps?

Nope. Just a pen and paper. You can sketch a star on anything—a printed template, a notebook, even a napkin.
